Akwa Ibom to begin Kidney Transplant

The CRRT/Renal Transplant Training Workshop organised by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Medicals, Dr. Ignatius Akpabio entered its second day.
The first session started with a training tagged "Setting Up a Renal Transplant Unit" - Kidney Transplantation in Developing countries and strategies to develop Kidney transplantation in Akwa Ibom State” by by Prof. Arogundade, a Professor of medicine and consultant, Dialysis & Transplantation with Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile ife.
It was followed by the second session which was focused on issues of Renal Transplant Surgery with the topic "Surgical Procedure in Kidney Transplantation", by Prof. Badmus Tajudeen of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife. He is a professor of Urological Oncology and a Kidney Transplantation Surgeon.
Dr. Mark Ebudio Head of Department, Anastasia in University of Uyo teaching hospital also lectured on Anastasia in Renal Transplant.

The attendees were also lectured on "The Renal Transplant nurse role and responsibilities by Mrs. Josephine Onyekwere.
The session ended with all attendees discussing on the road map to Renal Transplant program in Akwa Ibom State.
Reacting during the discussion session, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Medicals, Dr. Akpabio thanked the Governor for acquiring the machine. He was optimistic that a Transplant will be possible in Akwa Ibom State in the next 12 months.
The training was equally attended by top medical personnel in Akwa Ibom and they include; Dr. Etok Essien - Director Medical service, Dr. Aniekeme Uwah - NMA Chairman, Dr. Martins Akpan - Director Medical Service, Dr Okon Akaiso - Head Ufology UUTH, Dr. Effiong Akpan - Head Dialysis UUTH, Dr. Mark Ebudio - HOD Anastesia, Dr. Eyo Effiong Ekpe, Dr. Emeka Nwafor - HOD Histoathology UUTH, Dr. Nyeneime Ibanga, Mrs Idara Obot - ICU UUTH Renal Nurses and Several other medical professionals.
The training session shall be wrapped u with experimental sessions.
