The Senate has voted to remove the compulsory National Youth Service Scheme from the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This is good news for many young Nigerians, however it doesn’t mean that NYSC is now not compulsory for university leavers.

Nigerian Senate on Wednesday approved independent candidature for the country’s electoral process. The approval on Wednesday was part of the ongoing amendment of the 1999 constitution.

According to the release published on Thursday July 20, 2017 by Punch Newspaper; (i)candidate must not be less than 30 years, while Councillorship candidate must not be less than 25 years. (ii.) Minimum qualification shall be Senior School Certificate or its equivalent. (iii.) Evidence of payment to the Commission a non-refundable processing fee of; 150,000.00 for Chairmen, 100,000.00 for Vice Chairmen, 50,000.00 for Councillors.

Multiple reports reaching us have it that Abak Road in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state was under siege as one of the banks was attacked by men of the underworld.
